Support an athlete's journey in chasing his dreams to compete for New Zealand
Auckland
Hello everyone!
I'm Hayato Yoneto, 22 year old 100m and 200m sprinter, and a Postgraduate student at the Auckland University of Technology. I've been selected to represent New Zealand at the upcoming Pacific Games in Honiara, Solomon Islands!
Since starting this sport, I have dreamed of representing the country I originate from. Growing up in Queenstown, I relocated to Auckland for University and to fulfil my sprinting goal.
Since last year, I've been privileged enough to be part of a fantastic training group and had the season I asked for. I managed to bring my 100m PB from 10.92 to 10.74 and my 200m PB from 22.57 to 21.58 seconds. From these results, I've been lucky enough to represent New Zealand.
This will be my second time competing overseas and my first time representing the country. I'm super stoked and excited for this opportunity to compete against the sprinters across the Pacific. However, this competition is self-funded and is high in expense for a student like me.
Therefore I'm asking for your help to get me to Honiara for a once in a lifetime opportunity!
All costs will go towards travel, accommodation, food, uniform, athlete village and competition entry expenses. It will mean the world to me for any contribution to my journey. Every dollar will count to bring my dreams to reality!
All money raised ($5500) will go towards travel, accommodation, food, uniform, athlete village, and competition entry expenses for the duration of the games.
Conclusion of Pacific Games! 2 December 2023
I thank everyone that has made the effort to try watch me live this past week.
Running five days in a row wasn’t the easiest, although the experiences I gained will live forward and really enjoyed competing in Honiara.
Came away with two seasons bests of 10.80 for the 100m and 21.70 for the 200m.
Ran a heat, semi, and final for both making me the 7th - 100m and 5th - 200m fastest of the Pacific. Although there were hopes for a medal, I left it all out there and have no regrets.
Once again, thank you to the 60 of you that donated to be part of my journey. The amount of support I had received really motivated me to do well, and I’m happy to had such an amazing experience here in the Solomon Islands :)
Thanks for taking your time to read this and hope you have a good rest of your day.
Hayato
